Open letter to the younger generations: Towards a future led by younger Greek Australians of Peloponnesian Ancestry

Dear friends

This is a special and significant request to you, the younger generations; the twenty, thirty and forty-year-olds of Peloponnesian ancestry, regarding the future of the Peloponnesian identity within the Greek community of Adelaide and South Australia.

Whilst we have six relatively active regional societies corresponding to the different prefectures of Peloponnisos, the general consensus is that we have had mixed success in attracting the younger generations to the functions and activities of our societies. Sadly a seventh society is already defunct.

The reasons may be many and varied, but we know you too are proud of your ancestry and seek out Greek connections, though in settings other than ours.

With this in mind the Peloponnesian Federation invites you to seek nomination from your regional society and in turn join a representative group of younger Greek Australians who under the auspices of the Federation will critically review the current state of things, but more importantly project into the future and what may be achievable for the Federation both in terms of the immediate as well as the longer term under a fresher leadership, a younger leadership totally in tune with the needs and aspirations of the younger generations.

As a first step we ask that you express your interest through your regional society who will then advise you of an introductory meeting for this purpose.

Looking forward to a future under the leadership of younger Greek Australians.

Warm regards

Christos G Vlahos (President)

Dimitri Katsambis (Secretary)
